Guiding Your Child Through the Program
Christine Cady
Owner/Director
I grew up in Toledo and graduated from McAuley High School, an all-girls Catholic high school. After high school, I attended The University of Toledo and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
Upon graduating from UT, I worked for the Franklin County Board of MR/DD, the Lucas County Board of MR/DD and a small non-profit agency in Monroe, MI developing and implementing programs for special-need children and adults. The programs were designed to help clients develop the skills they needed to be as independent as possible; from learning to care for themselves to developing work skills and finding jobs. I learned a lot during those years, especially how to appreciate and celebrate life’s little successes.
That life lesson led me to make the decision to stay home with my two oldest children while they were young. Even though I cherished the opportunity to spend more time with my family, the passion to help children reach their full potential never subsided. After several years as a stay-home mom, I actively started looking for opportunities to fulfill that dream.
I discovered Kumon through a friend who moved to the Toledo area from Detroit. After researching the program and seeing the impact Kumon had on our own young children, I fell in love. My husband, Ron, and I agreed that we wanted to bring Kumon to our community to benefit others. In October 2003, I became a Certified Kumon Instructor and Franchisee Owner and I’m proud to say that we opened the doors of our Perrysburg Kumon Center in December 2003. Over the years, we have helped over 1,000 children reach their full potential.
Currently, I reside in Perrysburg with my husband, 3 children and our dog. We love Perrysburg and are very active in the community, supporting community events and local fundraisers whenever possible. I facilitated the founding of a Perrysburg MOMS Club Chapter in 2003, participated as an active member in the Friends of Perrysburg women’s organization from 2003-2008 and was Fundraising Co-Chair (raising money for local families in need) from 2004-2006. My children attend Perrysburg Schools, where I am also an active volunteer.
It is my belief that education opens doors and by giving our children the opportunity to learn, we are investing in their future and that of our community. I welcome the opportunity to get to know you and your family better.
Shari Browder
Shari graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and holds an Ohio Certification for grades pre- kindergarten through third grade. She works with students in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grades. In addition to being with Kumon of Perrysburg for over 5 years, Shari works as a Reading Intervention Tutor with Perrysburg Schools.
Shari is married and has a son who is in sixth grade.
I love working at Kumon because of the diversity of our students. The Kumon curriculum allows all students to be successful –no matter if they are attending for additional work or enrichment activities. My best days are when students and parents tell me how well their child is progressing, how surprised they are with their success and how excited they are to do their Kumon activities. I enjoy working with both the students and their parents and celebrating their successes.
Patty Coughlin
Patty has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in marketing with a minor in accounting. She is currently the administrative assistant at Kumon of Perrysburg. Patty has been with Kumon of Perrysburg for five years and has alsoinstructed students in math and reading. She is married with five children and volunteers weekly at her kids’ school. Patty works part time at the Center because she enjoys spending time with her family.
I enjoy working with students to help them become stronger and more confident in their school work.
Laura Egli
Laura has a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University and has been with Kumon of Perrysburg as a math instructor for 1-1/2 years. She lives in Perrysburg with her husband and two children.
I find as a substitute in local schools that many children do not fully master a concept before the classroom teacher must move on due to the pacing schedule provided by the district. Kumon makes certain that students master reading and math material that may not have been fully mastered in school. Kumon can also provide a wonderful enrichment for those students not challenged sufficiently in the classroom.
Nick Hefner
Nick will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, specializing in finance and supply chain management. At Kumon of Perrysburg, Nick teaches math, mostly geared towards higher level students. He has been working at Kumon of Perrysburg since August of 2006 and is an avid golfer and sports fan, especiallyThe Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. Nick is currently single and lives in Perrysburg. He also enjoys spending time with his family in his spare time.
What really makes me passionate about working at Kumon of Perrysburg is helping kids that are motivated to learn new concepts and ideas and seeing them succeed doing so.
Cody Konz
Cody is a student majoring in Early Childhood Education at Lourdes College and has been a reading instructor at Kumon for almost five years. After obtaining his undergraduate degree in the spring of 2011, Cody plans to continue his studies and earn his master’s degree in education. He lives in Perrysburg.
I enjoy working with children and helping them become educated. I find working with students to be very eventful, exciting and rewarding. I not only teach, but I learn extensively about life through children as well. The Kumon Method has taught me about a different form of education by helping each child learn at their own pace to fulfill their personal learning needs.
Kelsey Roberts
Kelsey has been with Kumon of Perrysburg for a year as a reading instructor. She earned a teaching degree from The University of Toledo, is certified in Integrated Language Arts and is also a substitute teacher for Oregon City, Washington Local and Ottawa Hills School Districts. Kelsey is the varsity volleyball coach for Ottawa Hills and Glass City Volleyball.
I am passionate about Kumon because it provides children an opportunity to have a one-on-one educational experience with an instructor who can answer questions according to the student’s specialized curriculum. We can also give students the extra help and encouragement they may need to excel in school. I believe that an education is the most valuable asset a person can possess and should never be taken for granted.
Katie Skowronek
Katie has been a reading instructor at Kumon of Perrysburg for almost three years. She graduated in 2006 from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduation, Katie taught part time as a Reading Intervention teacher in the Perrysburg School District for two years. She currently teaches first grade at Woodland Elementary.
Katie got married in September of 2009. The couple purchased a house in Perrysburg, where she has lived her entire life.
As a classroom teacher, it is very hard to give children the opportunity to learn at their own pace because we are teaching a concept and moving along whether they master the concept or not. Kumon is a self-paced program and ensures that students have mastered the curriculum before moving on. I feel Kumon gives students the skills they need to work and thrive in a classroom setting.
Jessica Wallace
Jessica is a sophomore at The University of Toledo preparing to earn a Bachelor degree in Business Administration and Marketing. She is a math instructor at Kumon of Perrysburg and has been working there for about four years.
I am passionate about being an instructor at Kumon because I really believe in the program and see that students benefiting from it. Students who come to Kumon of Perrysburg gain confidence and excel in their studies.
